New Grad. med/surg or acute care?

I am currently a nursing student. I will be graduating here in a couple of months with my ADN. I have been advised to begin my nursing career on a med/surg floor to better my assessment, prioritization, and organizational skills. I was just wondering what some of you experienced RNs thought about that?

this question has been asked and answered several times before in this forum. the best answer i have seen is: begin where you feel most comfortable, if possible. if your heart is in critical care, that is where you must begin. i started out in the or, and i'm hooked. i can't imagine being miserable (and i would be) in med/surg. this is not an indictment of med/surg nursing! it's just not for this nurse.

Med/surg is acute care. ER, ICU, OR are more critical units and need even more training. I love med/surg, it is a speciality, but not everyone feels that way. Do some soul searching, what do you feel your heart wants you to do? Then go for it. Good luck.
