New Grad LVN

Published

I am a new grad LVN and am currently feeling a little bit lost as to which step to take next. I am not having much luck with finding a good lvn-rn bridge program, and got lucky just to land a good LTC job meanwhile.

The thing is, I don't want to spend many more years in school or "waste precious time." I have completed all of my nursing prereq's from a community college, but most schools I have checked in to [as though nursing schools aren't competitive enough as it is] require 6 months to a year in med-surg experience on top of everything else.

A lvn-adn program should take approx 1 year or so to complete, as should an adn-bsn program. (So I would prefer to only spend about 2.5-3 years tops on obtaining my bsn).

I don't want to spend years just waiting to get into an lvn transition program, when I could simply go back and complete a generic rn program instead in the same amount of time. If only I had known before how complicated things would be for a new grad LVN with no work experience

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

I went through an accelerated part time generic BSN program after 5 years of experience under my belt.

Make sure you are Associate Degree eligible and get the degree so you won't have to repeat any courses; continue working, and keep trying to get into a program.

Sending positive vibes in your success!

It really helps to hear other people's stories and to know that I'm not alone. I am doing my best to stay positive and keep pushing forward/working toward my dream, as that is all I can do at this point! & besides, it definitely can't hurt to have much more "real-world" experience going back in to nursing school, once I get back on track..Thank you :)
