Hello, I am a new grad Lpn who just started weekends per diem shifts in the ED. Today was my first day and I feel so lost. I was paired with an RN not as preceptor but more to work with n help where needed. She was nice but was missing most of the day. I don't know if I made a bad choice. I also work FT at a gynecology clinic during the week. Any advice? I would really appreciate it.

Hi Brittany21,
I hope your experience is getting better as the months go on. If you find that you aren't properly orientated onto the unit, and it's compromising patient safety, I think you should request for some extra orientation onboarding shifts. However, even if you're paired up with a RN, we work as a team in health care, so I would reach out to another colleague if I can't find the nurse I am paired up with to ask them for clarification. As a nurse, we always encourage you to be curious and comfortable with asking questions. I hope that helps!
