Hi, I am a recent graduate of a nursing program at the University of Iowa. I recently moved to Chicago have been applying to nursing jobs since October!! I have had only a few bites and I was wonderding if anyone had any advice as to the best way to get a nursing job in Chicago. I've looked and applied at most of the major hospitals here (UIC, Northwestern, Rush, Resurrection, etc) and for one reason or another I can't seem to get a job!! I thought nurses were in such high demand?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on finishing nursing school. Same dilemna with me too. I am beginning to wonder if Chicago does really have a nursing shortage???:prdnrs:
I know. I've heard through the grapevine that sometimes the supply is greater than demand. How long have you been searching?

I'm right there with you on the job search. I've been looking since October and I have had one interview. I interviewed very early apparently, before the Dec. grads, so they won't be getting back to me until probably next week. It seems as though they only want experienced nurses at the hospitals I've applied to. I thought I would get more feedback after my endorsement for IL went through, but now I'm a registered nurse in the state of IL and I still can't get a response.
I've gotten a job here in my home state until something happens.

Hey guys, IL does consist of more than Chicago: come on down to the Peoria, Bloomington/Normal area - lots of jobs and lower cost of living.

Also, come to Champaign. Its a very nice community and its about 1 1/2 hours S. of Chicago!
Thanks for the advice about the burbs but I live downtown and am willing to commute some but also dont want to have to drive too far to get to work. Any advice?
I am pretty sure Illinois Masonic and St Joseph are hiring new grads. Email me if you want some more info @ [email protected].

Illinois Masonic has an RN residency program at certain times of the year where they bring in new grads. The next one is July I believe and you have to apply to the program.
