  1. Thanks for the advice about the burbs but I live downtown and am willing to commute some but also dont want to have to drive too far to get to work. Any advice?
  2. MSMITH, if you dont mind me asking, where do you work? I am a new grad living in the city but willing to travel to the burbs to work. It has been very difficult trying to find a nursing job here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  3. I am a new grad and have been applying to nursing jobs since October of 08'. So far I have had 3 interviews and of the three one position was cancelled due to the economy. The second one offered a part time position and the third interview Im still waiting to hear back on.It has been a lot tougher than I originally thought it would be. I would say be persistent and also you can look into the nearby suburbs if you are open to it. Any other new grads having problems getting a job? It's sad because Im sure we all are really excited to start working and it seems like we can't! Help!
  4. I would have to say that in Chicago, the economy has definitely hit the healthcare fields. I interviewed with a very well known hospital here and got a call about 2 weeks after interviewing that they were not going to be able to fill the position due to the economy. I have been applying at a lot of hospitals since October and I can't seem to find any work. I am a new grad and so eager to start my career. Any advice for us new grads looking for employment??
  5. A lot of the chicago hospitals HR departments dont let you call and "bug" them about your application. I have tried calling and they tell me that because of so many applicants they cant check on the status of your application. Any ideas on that? It's crazy. I want to start my career and it's been so difficult. Anyone know of hospitals/units that are hiring and willing to take a new grad? Thanks for all of the great input and hopefully things will happen soon!
  6. Hey, I know we are having the same issues....it has not been fun looking for a RN job here. If I find out anything helpful I will be sure to let you know. On another note, I used to live in Texas as well...Plano area. When did you move here? What brought you here? RebJHaskin
  7. I know. I've heard through the grapevine that sometimes the supply is greater than demand. How long have you been searching?
  8. Hi, I am a recent graduate of a nursing program at the University of Iowa. I recently moved to Chicago have been applying to nursing jobs since October!! I have had only a few bites and I was wonderding if anyone had any advice as to the best way to get a nursing job in Chicago. I've looked and applied at most of the major hospitals here (UIC, Northwestern, Rush, Resurrection, etc) and for one reason or another I can't seem to get a job!! I thought nurses were in such high demand?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! -RebJHaskin
