New Grad Jobs

Hello!

My father lives in Burlington so I am familiar with all the hospitals in the triad area. However, he says hospitals are not hiring RN's to replace the RN's that retire in order to cut costs due to Obamacare. Is this true? I am very interested in working at UNC or Duke if I cannot find a job here in Cleveland. Any input would be great!

Thanks!

I'm not noticing that where I work. I'm at ARMC, the hospital in Burlington.

Not noticing that within the Duke system either...

They seem to be hiring ALL the time. Someone said a lot of nurses go to Duke just for a few years to have it on their résumé and leave after 2-3 years and go elsewhere.

I see....well that is good news! How are the benefits at Duke and UNC? Any other hospital recommendations?

I interviewed with Duke, and the interview was very laid back, very exciting. They are definitely on the cutting edge of everything with technology, patient safety, patient satisfaction, patient outcomes. The benefit information I received was quite a lot to read, but they currently contribute 80% towards your health benefits, so I think that says something for how great their benefits are overall! :)

I'm not sure about other hospitals however as I am new to the area. I think if you know you are coming to North Carolina, having a nursing license in the state will be beneficial in getting a quick start date. It took me about 6 weeks to get mine back from the NCBON.

I see. I start my accelerated BSN program this coming Jan 6th and will finish May 2015. I'm not 100% sure I am coming down to NC as I will first check out the local hospital situation up here in Cleveland. If I do decide to come down to NC can I just prep for the NC NCLEX instead of the OH one? Or should I take the OH one first and then prep for the NC one?

Wow, that sounds great! I work at UH right now (Insurance Follow Up) and I must say that our benefits are not that great : /

Duke opens positions for new grad training at the end of each month...which is pretty nice.

Hmmm, that is very convenient. I'm still about 1.5 years away from doing anything but hopefully they dont make any drastic changes.
