new grad, interview tips?

Published

Hi everyone: I am a recently graduated RN and preparing for job interview. Could anyone give me some valuable tips? When I was in nursing school, I dropped medsurg once and I failed medsurg once. Finally I passed in 3rd attempt. Now in the interview, I must take my transcripts, so when the interviewer ask me about my failure in medsurg, how should I respond. Does this failure will diminish my chances of getting the job? Do you have any ideas or any similar experiences? or am I the only one with this kind of situation?

Thank you all.

Why did you fail med-surg twice and pass the third time? (you don't have to answer here, but that is the answer I would give to the person interviewing you). I would be candid about your experiences.

If the job is med-surg and they have a candidate that did better in med-surg, they may go with that candidate. That is probably one of the reasons they want to see your transcripts. Lots of people failed med-surge when I was in school. Most of my class is still unemployed though.

They never look at your transcripts. Start worrying about your connections and make friends with the charge nurses/managers of every unit you do rotations in. Also, start pimping your resume and working on interviewing skills.
