I'm a recent ADN graduate and interviewing for a HH position with a reputable company tomorrow. I'm an older new grad in my late 40's and was referred to this company by a close friend from nursing school who has also interviewed with them and will likely accept. She has filled me in on some of the details, but I want to make sure I ask all the right questions during my interview tomorrow to make my decision. I live in a suburb of Houston and this area will be approx 30- 40 miles from my home which is par for the course here. Many other nurses feel the need to mention that HH doesn't count as hospital experience, which I already know so Im not mentioning it to my nurse friends. The job market is very tough for new grads here, especially for ADN's and I want to work while working on my BSN. I have had no offers in 3 1/2 months and I feel that working in HH and doing patient care will afford me more nursing experience than working in a clinic or doctors office, which I really don't want to do anyway. I also enjoy working with the older client which is a large percentage of their HH care patients. The main thing giving me pause is that this co pays their RN's on a salary basis + .43 for mileage. They are offering a $2500 sign on bonus, but I'm sure that will come with a time honored contract. The director I spoke with did say that some nurses choose their pay per visit option, but I don't know how much that is either. My friend said the salary amount when divided by 40 hrs per week is $25 per hour and there are also quarterly bonuses, plus an extra $300 for being on call whether or not you go out on any calls. The director also said they stick pretty strictly to a M- F 8-5 schedule, unless something like a wound dressing etc.is due and falls on the weekend, but there are no scheduled visits for weekends.
What else should I ask about? I know little about HH nursing so any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated. The nurses are also given tablet type laptops for charting and can sync them through wi-fi at home or the office.
