Good Morning Everyone!
So I am a New Grad and just started working as a Case Manager for Hospice. I actually just finished my first week. I went out with several nurses and shadowed/provided care for their patients. On Monday I start working with the nurse whom I'm going to take over some of her patients. Currently, I am feeling extremely overwhelmed with... I guess everything. The medications and equipment used, I am not familiar with. I write down meds and study them at night and am as hands on as much as I can.
My question is, how long did it take for you to be comfotable with the requirements of Hospice field work. I am starting to doubt myself and am wondering if I have enough skill to provide patient care by myself in the field. Obviously, I am going to give it more than a week, especially since my orientation time is open in length. I am just feeliing sick to my stomach and wonder if I 'can do it'. Thanks!
This posting is very uplifting. I have read other postings about Case Management and they really discouraged me from even going to a Case Manager interview.. It seems they require many years experience. I am a new grad and it just seems overwhelming from the posts others have posted. Everyone who is a new grad and is a case manager, how is it going for you?

nicole2010: hope everything's under control now. I just recently passed my nclex exam and have been applying to alot of home health, home care and hospice places here in vegas but didn't receive any call until now. can you please recommend a place whether home care or hospice who are accepting new grad if its okay. thank you so much
I have been working as a case manager in hospice for 6 months now. It is my first job as a nurse. I think the company I work for is more demanding than most from what I'm seeing on this forum. I have a case load of 25 patients but I have an LVN. I am just now starting to have days that I like. It has been VERY hard but I can see a little light at the end of the tunnel now, so be real patient with yourself and the job.
Wishing you lots of luck and encouragement!
I do on call and admits. I work an average of 55 hours a week. I'm so exhausted. But I want to work for a year at least so I can have something good on a resume. I love hospice. It's why I became a nurse. But I hate these hours and apparently they are the norm for hospice. I would love to do night shifts because I'm such a night owl I find it hard to function during the day but They use LVNs for that.
