Hi everyone! I will be graduating from my ADN program in December and am starting to think about applying to positions at the local hospital which is paying for my education through a scholarship program. The process is to apply to one of their orientations/internships such as med/surg, critical care, the OR and home care. I've read a lot of posts on this board discouraging new grads from home health because of a lack of clinical knowledge and I completely understand this and don't want to be unsafe in my practice. I am, however, really interested in home health and am wondering if the orientation offered by this hospital is enough in your opinion? They offer 3 months orientation on a med/surg floor followed by 3 or more months orienting in home health (all at full GN pay). Following that they have very supportive management to take calls and even come out to help according to a friend who has done this program. What do you think?

Based on what you posted it sounds pretty good to me. Formal orientation in both med surg and hh. Many employers do not have a formal orientation program. And remember that once you get started, you can always ask for more orientation and/or help along the way.
Thank you for responding and giving me your opinion on this!! That is so helpful!

While I would normally not recommend HH to a new grad, the orientation sounds really exceptional and if the support you talk about is really there it could work. Good luck!
