New Grad; ER or Neuroscience?

Hi everyone -

i am looking for a little advice...

I have two job offers; one is ER in small community hospital - they have a good orientation, all the training, etc... but it is not the local trauma center. My other offer is in the larger, teaching hospital, which has the regional trauma center (won't hire new grads...). The position here is on a well respected neuroscience unit that includes an 8 bed step-down unit.

I guess my question is if this neuro experience might look good for getting into a trauma Er down the road...

I feel very confused. Thank you for any insight!

Well, if you are bound and determined to go into the ER "right away", then the choice is simple.

However, if you can invest some time, I'm sure that you can transfer into the ER as soon as you can prove yourself and have put some experience behind you.

Also, if you look at the big picture, having this position on the "well respected neuroscience unit" would probably look better to a future employer than a hospital its interviewer might ask, "So, where is that?"

I worked neuro right out of school. Some of the toughest patients outside of the critical care units. You will have some great learning experience in the larger hospital that will serve you well if you wish to switch to a large or small ED later down the road.
