New Grad - Applying for Adult care after specializing in Pediatrics

Published

Hi,

I have recently graduated from Nursing school, woo! I specialized in pediatrics and I had my final preceptorships at a children's hospital. I was not able to get a position at the hospital. So I am looking to get experience anywhere I can and that means applying to adult care as well as other pediatric wards in the city.

I need help figuring out how to present myself in my cover letters and in interviews about why I am looking for work in adult care even though I specialized in pediatrics. I eventually want to go back to pediatrics, but I want to get working as a nurse and applying my skills and knowledge. And I just need income!

I am applying to adult med/surg, ENT, vascular, and various wards (all adult). I have not worked with adults since fall 2014 when I was in a clinical placement. I have provisional registration and I am writing the NCELX in two weeks.

Thank you for any advice or suggestions you can offer!
