So as I sit in my room at 2 in the morning procrastinating my studying for the NCLEX, I began to apply for RN positions. I live right in Boston and I currently work as a PCA at Children's Hospital and I LOVE IT THERE. unfortunately there are no positions available for me. I heard about New England Baptist and I decided to do some research. I applied to their New Grad Program due to begin in the fall of 2009. I did some more research and I found this : http://www.abusedatthebaptist.org/. I INSTANTLY almost regretted applying just now. I don't know how much of this is true, but from what I read, it all seems so horrific and almost baffling. It seems like a seen right out of Lifetime, i SWEAR! I wish everyone can read this in a Bio Ethics class or something because the way that this woman was treated during her short stay was almost animalistic. Can anyone tell me what it is like to be working with such abusive physicians? I can't imagine working in a place where it seems like the RN's can not advocate for their patients. It is unfair for all of us and especially for the patients themselves. Makes me kinda sad almost...:crying2:

Let me know if this is something I should take with a grain of salt OR if this is really the case for NEBH....

I find this story difficult to be credible, especially since according to this writer she was basically abused by basically every single person at the hospital. Interesting that she dropped the lawsuit because she didn't want to give her doctor's names to the defendants. That seems odd for someone who claims to be so victimized. NE Baptist has some of the highest patient satisfaction scores in MA and the country. It's also one of the top ortho hospitals. I know a couple nurses who work there and they love the environment and the patient population. I wouldn't let one hospital deter you from applying, especially when HCAHPS and Press Ganey reports rank it among the top, even from 2008...those are composed of MANY patient experiences, not one disgruntled patient's website. Here's more on their ratings from Press Ganey:

First of all this incident took place over a decade ago.

Second not one agency ( Joint Commission, Board of Medicine, or the Legal System ) seems to have agreed that this patient was harmed.

Third, I wonder how sick she really was since she only released selective parts of her medical record.

If you are lucky enough to get a position take it, jobs are hard to come by in Boston.

not yet..still waiting to hear from them....eh.

Wow, I just looked at that website and I'm flabbergasted. I can't believe that someone would go to such an effort. While I agree with the previous posters that it's hard to find it completely credible I do have to wonder what on earth happened to anger her so greatly. Also, I can't imagine being transferred all the way from Idaho to Boston with such injuries. The whole thing is pretty fascinating (and sad).

As a graduate of the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and former Baptist employee, I can assure you that it is a fine place to work. During my years in Boston, I also had occasion to be a patient at the Baptist, and the care that I received was excellent by both physicians and nurses.

20+ years of nursing in all types of acute care settings has taught me that there can indeed be difficult Physicians to deal with....even difficult nurses. But lets not forget the difficult patients. This woman appears to have WAY too much time on her hands. Perhaps she suffered some head trauma during her unfortunate accident? Whatever the circumstances, her tale is full of scenarios that could never have happened. One glaring statement is that a "Nursing Supervisor" "Assigned" her an attending physician. I've been a nursing supervisor for some years now, and that could never happen. I know one of the physicians that this poor woman references in her diatribe, and I have never known him to be anything but kind to his patients. If any of this fairy tale were true, this unfortunate woman would be sitting pretty as the beneficiary of several costly lawsuites, the conditions of which would have undoubtedly barred her from talking about her "experiences". As it is, this is her only venue for venting hostilities of a dubious nature.

I hope that you did get your job at the Baptist! I worked there right out of school and learned a great deal! No matter where I work, it was the fundamentals of nursing that I learned during my years as a student and New Graduate while at the Baptist that have paved the way for the next steps in my carreer.
