New drug cocktails for executions....opinions?

Published

This is not a thread about the death penalty. My interest lies in your thoughts about this particular drug combo...

10 mg versed and 250mcg fentanyl followed one minute later by 200mg propofol followed 30 seconds later by 50mg rocuronium followed 30 seconds later by 100meq KCL followed 10 minutes later by the morgue staff. Three minutes and the murderer was comfy unconscious, still, then dead...every time. The price would be minimal. Is this really so difficult?[/quote']

Until we hit a Propofol shortage again and Europe withholds imports to the US because it is being used for capital punishment. It was my understanding that they have already threatened to withhold it (only here say, I have no soiled facts of that).

Then skip the propofol and use 30 mg of etomidate...

Or just end this silliness and use some of the time-tested ways of execution... large caliber bullet to the head, gallows, gas chamber...

Or go high tech... flash incineration with a 200 megawatt plasma torch

It's just not that hard to kill someone... and we need to either make peace with the decision to kill people or simply stop doing it...

Do you think being aware your headless for a few secs ... is worse than being on death row for 14yrs ..or a botched hanging or firing squad ..ppl suffocate in the gas chamber..the chair seems horrible..idk...maybe the "exit bag " would be best ... or nembutal that suicide clinics use

Since I induce people to the state of a medical induced coma everyday IMHO the use of anesthetic agents followed with a muscle paralyzer and potassium is the most humane approach to execution.

Agreed. The problem is suffering and pain. Painless death is the best option. Who is to say that beheading someone is not only painful but also mentally anguishing?

Well, the high-power plasma torch would be 100.000% effective and take less than 0.5 seconds from initiation to vaporization.

This isn't something I should respond to, but you have to shut down multiple parts of the brain at one time for that to be effective/humane so it would have to be a torch big enough to vaporize the entire brain at one time. Not to mention most methods of execution other than what is currently in use would never be approved or make it through the court system.

This guy abducted, raped, and murdered his victim back in 1986 and we are concerned if whether or not his death will be humane? Angie's death wasn't humane, so why should we care. Why is an article even worth our time when this guy performed a heinous crime? A lot of these medications have shortages in the hospitals. Shortages to patients who did not rape or murder people, shortages to people who we are actually trying to save and make their lives comfortable while the are intubated and reliant on machines and IV drips. So again who cares if this criminal experiences discomfort? Save these medications for patients who deserve to be made comfortable.
