I was wondering do you have to apply for all new credit when you move? What about debts back here? What about bankruptcy?

Yes monie, you have to apply for all new credit. It's like you never had credit before. Your debts do not follow you however when we moved south they wanted a letter from our Visa company in Canada to confirm we had a good credit history. Also when we came back, because we had been away from Canada for longer than 7 years we no longer had any credit history in Canada and had to start all over again here!

I'd like to hear more about this!!
Yes monie, a secured card is probably the way to go. But believe me they are so eager to lend you money down there you will be inundated with offers. As long as you have a job you will be able to get credit, it may just take a little time. What helped us when we moved there is that we bought a car within a few weeks of arriving. Not a problem getting a loan as I had a job. That also helped get us a credit card within 6 months.
When leaving Canada did any of you have to send in info to revenue canada? HOw can the balance be erased?
