I passed the boards a couple of weeks ago and have accepted a job in Couplet Care. I will be working full time for 4 weeks then 1 week on nights my last week of orientation. After that, I will work 2 nights a week.
I am excited and scared. It is an awesome hospital and I know I will be safe there and have excellent support and backup. I did my preceptorship there at the end of school, so I know where things are basically, the paperwork and routines. I am sad to leave my daughter full time. I wish I didn't have to orient full time, but I have to. It will be a long 5 weeks.
I am reading up on basics of newborn and postpartum care, complications, etc. This week is just basic hospital orientation, so I still have some time.
I have 4 weeks of orientation. Actually only have 11 12 hour shifts and on Halloween, I am scheduled to work on my own. I am nervous about that since it will be the 3rd night in a row my first week on nights. I know that a lot of the basics of the floor I already know since I had 9 12 hour shifts the last 3 weeks of school. Still, I am worried. Which is normal, or so it seems.
Any advice for me? I am also ordering the book from S.T.A.B.L.E. course since they don't have one here. I won't have NRP until January since I missed the last class. I am hoping that book will help me until then.
Thanks! I am looking forward to being more active here as I start my journey as a nurse!

Congratulations. Do your nurses have to take NRP also? make sure you are a good breastfeeding advocate for these moms. No bottles, supplements or pacifiers. That helps the om get off to good start.

Yes, get NRP asap. And relax and enjoy. I think you will be GREAT. Congratulations on passing boards. If you ever have specific questions, dont' hesitate, just ask!!! that's what we are here for.
thanks guys! we have about 4 classes we have to take and NRP is one of them. i missed the last one and the next will be beginning of next year.
i will definitely try to be a good breastfeeding advocate! i still breastfeed my 2 year old, so i am pretty pro-breastfeeding. :)
