New cna questions

Sorry for stupid questions. I want to be good at my job but am scared to ask stupid questions at work. I start training in three days

What do you do after taking a patient off the bedpan? Like after I clean them up what do I do with the bedpan? Do I empty it in the toliet then scrub it in the sink? Those thick wipes can't be thrown in the toilet can they?

Yes, empty it in the toilet. If the resident is on "strict I&Os" then you would want to measure it first (if it is urine). Never put the thick wipes in the toilet...it will clog it up eventually. I always dumped the contents into the toilet, washed the bedpan with soap and water, then dried it with a paper towel, and disposed of the wipes into the trash. I would then take the trash bag out of the room so that the room would not smell.

I hope that helps!!!

i am merging the two duplicate posts.

At the facility that I did my practicum at we would cover it. Take it to the bathroom empty it in the toilet and then take it out into the wash room where there was a bedban/urinal washing machine...Kinda like a mini dishwasher.

My dear fellow CNA. You rinse the bedpan out. If you are in a hospital setting the hopper is attached to the toilet. Use it. I am a fan of the hip fracture bedpans. after they are rinsed they slid great into the back of the handlerail. I have a trick I use to put a papertowel in the bottom of the pan it will clean out better. Also when putting a pt. on a bedpan sprinkle baby powder around the rim so it slides easier. ( don't do this if pt has resp problems; never use baby powder on them at all ) Hope this helps. ;)
