New CNA nervous about getting a job

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi all!!

I got my certificate in July and now I have decided it's time for me to get my new job. I got applications from the Nursing Homes here in town and will take them back tonight. I must say though that I am really nervous and i get so upset sometimes i make myself sick. I know everything will be ok, but I just worry. I have two young boys and I also worry about leaving them at home. Is there anything I should know before I turn in my applications?

Thanks!

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, do you think it would be better for me to work full time or part time?? I was wondering what the difference is also. I'm applying for the evening shift. :)

Is it possible to turn them in the day time? I'm asking b/c you might be able to meet with someone like the DON. One time I filled out an app. @ a nursing home & I met the DON while I was filling it out, and happened to get an interview on the spot. With regards to working full time or part time I guess it depends on what works best for you. Second shift IMO is a good place for a new CNA to start out b/c you don't have to worry so much about family members or managment being on your case lol. Lastly, you should check out http://www.medicare.gov . You can look up nursing homes in your area & see how their ratings are in terms of :staffing, quality measures & etc. Good luck! :)

aww thank you!! i didn't get to take my applications back today. hopefully tomorrow. when i did clinicals we did the morning shift and i got stressed out. i think that's why i'm so nervous about it. so second shift would be better? is it not as fast paced??

It depends on the facility, but generally speaking, second shift tends to be more laid back than morning.

Oh ok!! I think i'll just work part time for now so i can still take care of my little ones. are we allowed to work when we are sick?? i feel like i'm getting a sinus infection and i have a slight fever. just wondering :)
