Hello All....I just wondered if anyone has heard anything about this new centre and how many new jobs this will open? I know it is scheduled to be open in 2009. I am from Sault Ste Marie and will be graduating then so I'm thinking this might be a good opportunity. Any info would be appreciated.
I've heard SAH has finally got the funding for the cancer bunker (currently if a patient needs radiation they need to go else where). I don't know if this will actually produce any new jobs. I'm not sure of the exact figure but i think about 20% of the area population is without a GP---therefore people are using their only other option of the walk in clinic were waits are anywhere from 2-8 hours. The hospital needs all the good nurses it can get, but it really isn't in a position today to lure new grads. THe new hospital should be built by then so things certaintly good improve a great deal between now and then. Either way, I wish you luck in your upcoming career and where ever you end up do a bit of research to know what you are walking into. Subury has a regional cancer centre currently, this may be an option for you as well.
I do know that less than six months ago SAH laid off a bunch of RN's. I, too, am from there and would love to go back...but....too insecure. I am comfortable knowing that down here in Toronto, I can go anywhere and get a job. Up there, you are more limited. However, I know lots of people who work across in MI, make the commute each day over to War Memorial, or Kinross etc.
My dad has been on the board of directors for SAH for years...makes for interesting dinner table conversation :uhoh21:

only a handful of the 2008 grads got jobs the the hospital... the rest had to leave town or look into other positions in the Soo. I just hope they start hiring in the next six months or so lol!!!
ps my dad's on the board too, that's funny
