new to California ? I am moving to California to start a job at UCLA Santa Monica. I dont know anyone out here and I am looking forward to meeting some of you ...the the first time californians and those who have been here .. awhile..

Specializes in ICU.

Cassieopea you are not losing your mind! UCLA's main campus and hospital is in Westwood, but they also have several medical offices and smaller hospitals around the Los Angeles area.

Good Luck with everything!

Michelle :)

Santa Monica Hospital is now a campus of the original Westwood UCLA. They are about 20 minutes apart in normal traffic. It is just about 15 blocks from the ocean.

Harbor-UCLA in the South Bay is a county hospital associated with UCLA medical school.

There is also St. Johns in Santa Monica. It is about 23 blocks from the ocean. If you work nights you can smell the salt air some mornings.

Specializes in Telemetry, Med/Surg.

I hope to hear how it's going for you! I've been toying with the idea of moving to CA myself for over a year now -- got my license endorsement last year, and have been trying to talk myself into just "going ahead with it," which seems to have been my only "hold up." I'm wanting to move within a reasonable distance of LA, and have met a couple at my current place of employment who had moved out there for several years (and want to move back, but are back in TX d/t sick parents) in the Inland Empire area.

It would be easier if I were fresh out of school, but I have a family, a dog, and a few more bills than I did then, so I'm hoping to find just the right wage/rent ratio to make the transition more pallatable. Good news, though, I've reworked my resume, and updated my reference list . . . so, I think it might happen in the next several months.

Keep us posted!

I am a bit worried...how long does it take to get a temporary liscense?

should I go to Sacramento or should I mail in my papers...

I got mine by endorsement -- totally through the mail. I knew it was going to be a bit before I moved there (still not there yet), so I didn't apply for temporary, only the permanent. From the time I made my initial application, until I received my license = 7 weeks.

It could have been a bit shorter; I did sit on my fingerprint cards for about a week before I sent them back in.
