NET... did you use the test guides?

Published

Hi Everyone...

I went yesterday to fill out my nursing school application only to find that the entrance process has changed. They are now requiring that each applicant take the NET (although they will not say how exactly the scores will be used when they process applications)... so my question is to those that have taken the NET. Did you purchase any of the study guides available? Did you find them useful? I honestly am not sure what to expect and always considered myself lucky because this school had never done any major entrance testing before (they only required the basic admissions testing)...

Thanks!

Alnee

Try to get your hands on the NET study guide. Don't buy it if you don't have to becuase it is expensive. Check out your college and public libraries. If you need it you can get through ERI. Here's the link:

The reason I recommend the guide is the Reading comprehesion part. I swear it was more confusing than any other basic reading comp test I've taken and I've taken the GRE (Graduate Record Exam). You really need to get a handle on what exactly they are asking for.

Now to finish the rest of the app.

Ditto, the above response. I just took the NET earlier this week and the study guide is almost exactly like the test for the math and reading sections. I think I paid around $30 for it at the above website. I have seen them on ebay, but they go for just about the same price as what you can buy it on the website for. Anyway, I would get it. It is real helpful.

I didn't buy it although it is very helpful. I just kept checking it out of my school's library. The book is a wonderful resource! Good luck to you on your test!

I honestly think that buying the book would be a waste of money. I got asked to take the test the night before the exam. I passed with no problems. The reading is only at a 10th grade level.

I copied a classmates ERI study guide. I looked over it the night before. I got nervous when I got to the test because I didn't have enough time to finish. Half of the 25 people there were retesting just the reading part for the 3rd or 4th time, so I was feeling awful. It was stressful but I think the practice tests helped. It's a good thing to have to prepare yourself for the time of reading questions. The Math was fairly basic.

I passed the first time which was shocking to me but I'm happy and I think it was due to having looked over the guide.

Good luck.

I definitely recommend the study guide.

While the reading may be '10th grade level', the level of thinking required isn't. That is why this test is required by so many schools.

The math is basic math, and basic algebra. (addition/subtraction/multiplication/division/ratios/fractions/algebra/etc)

The 'reading' isn't hard to understand, but it tests you on a critical thinking level to determine the purpose of author, main idea, etc.

It is not "Johnnie went to the store." Where did johnnie go? A. To the store, B...........

While it isn't 'hard', many people stress over the math portion needlessly, when it is very common to do much better on the math, than the reading.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice!!! Is the one study guide the only one you guys would recommend? I noticed a couple at Barnes & Noble today but they did not have that particular one. It seems like it may only be available through the publisher. Of course none of the public libraries have it nor does the school library. I was really trying to avoid having to order something off the computer.

I will ask around and see if perhaps someone has one that they are no longer using locally.

Thanks again for the advice. I am a little nervous just because we can only test once for each admission period and I do not know exactly how the scores will be used in the admission process (it has not been discussed as of yet)... and perhaps a little more nervous since one of my classmates and study partners just failed the test a couple of weeks ago.

You can also try http://www.campusi.com. They do a search to find the book and compare prices with online retailers. They will also include listings on ebay.

Good luck.
