Nervous to take AANP again

Published

Hello, I am scheduled to take my AANP (family) in exactly 6 days and I am scared to death. I took the exam a few months ago and failed I was devastated. I have since moved the test back twice, however I am so tired of this and want to take it this time. I have studied hard and reviewed with Leiks and Barkley. I have taken all the Leiks questions and the questions has helped me to understand what the question is asking me. The questions has also help me understand the content more. Thinking about taking this test again makes me so nervous and it tends to cloud my thinking. I have been scoring in the 70's with the Leiks questions. Not sure if I should reschedule or not...

Thanks everyone, I am just feeling unsure of where to go from here. I am taking 4 days off from studing to clear my mind and have some peace for a moment. I really felt I did better this last go round. The 1st time I failed I was using Barkley's only. I added Leiks this second go around but mainly just answering the questions and reviewing a few topics. I had started doing the APEA questions but stopped and just focused on Leiks review questions. I took the AANP predictor test 2 days prior and passing was 66% and I scored 76%. My final testing score with Leiks was 80%. I am just lost at this point and not sure what to do. I went to 2 review courses prior to taking my first test. I can't wait to see my score to compare how if I am did better that the first test or not. I am almost wondering if I made the right decision going to NP school.

Not passing the test at this time is not a measure of whether your decision to go to NP school was right or wrong. That's why these exams could be taken a number of times because they know that failing the test could be related to multiple factors (comprehension, anxiety, test-taking skills, etc). You graduated from NP school whete u passed all the exams/presentations, papers, clinicals, OSPs, thesis, etc. You earned it! You wouldn't succeed if you were not gonna be a good NP.

I haven't taken the exam so cant really comment on what will help u to pass it. Which review courses did u take? Many people on this site took Fitzgerald or Hollier's review classes with good results. There are other tips from other NPs regarding the exam on this website, just search.

But yes, taking some time off to relax and de-stress is a good idea. Then go back to studying once you are ready. i believe you will pass as long as you are determined to succeed and devote time/effort in ur study. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions to help me. @ChellyfutureNP I really appreciate the things you stated because I was measuring/questioning myself as a NP because I failed twice. I did do well in school but this test because it determines if I can start a new career or not have made me anxious and nervous. In NP school we focused on one topic at a time and quickly moved on to the next, however I gues study so much from the fetus to the 100 year old patient with all the ends and outs including medications can be overwhelming and can quickly stress you out. I always was finding something new I didn't know while studying stressed me out as well. I thank you for your supportive comments. I am gonna keep pushing. Good luck to you with your studies and keep the postive attuide.

Gdschild im in the same boat as you. I just tested AANP for the 2nd time and failed it. I did the Fitzgerald review, took predictor tests from AANP, APEA, and just practices tests from the edge all had me in the pass range, not just barely in but passing and I failed again. This has just pissed me off, still waiting on the official results, but I just signed up for the ANCC exam. Keep your head up ive been feeling like you also, "should I even be doing this", but we got through school had to know our stuff for that so it helps some. Im getting the APEA review cd as the course I wanted to go is full, going to do a ton of questions with the rationals, get into the book and keep at it. Good luck remember we still have another test to do, maybe thats all we needed.
