I know this may sound silly, but I start clinicals next fall and I am so nervous about practicing IV's, blooddraws, etc on my classmates! Were any of you scared about that in the beginning? I guess I just get kinda squeemish about trusting other people to practice that stuff on me. Is it easy to get over??

we didn't practice blood draws or IVs on each other. the only thing we practiced on each other was blood pressure & some assessments (always fully clothed).

That type of stuff is not practiced on your partners...it is usually done with the dummies.

I have only finished 1st semester, but we did practice most of that stuff with our partners, but that was mainly vitals and scenario's like meds, partial bed bath, ACE bandage, TED hose, Ambulating and Transferring. Stuff like that.

Don't worry - I was nervous too, but it's not what you think...the invasive stuff is done with dummies or other tools...

phew.. I would just die if someone was jabbing me that had no idea how to do it.

We did most of our skills on manikins. There were a few that we practiced on classmates.. like bowels sounds and pulses and things, but nothing bad.
