Nervous about clinicals

Published

We are staring to get everything around for clinicals and I am extremely nervous. I'm afraid that I'm going to mess up and look silly. I always freeze up when I'm put on the spot even though I know the information. I understand that I am there to learn my hands on techniques but I'm just afraid of being judged and embarrassed. What would be the best way to prepare?

Take a deep breath. Review your meds, lab values, and diagnoses. Normal VS ranges. Assessment findings. Know that you know your stuff (and make sure you actually do know it!). Oh yeah, and...take a deep breath.

You will be fine! Learn a lot, do as much as you can, and have fun!

Just keep in mind that the instructors know you don't know everything and don't expect you to. Being extra prepared and going that extra mile to educate yourself before put into any situation will lower your anxiety. I feel the same way every single semester, but with experience your confidence will grow.
