This is getting really depressing. While doing my pre-reqs the past few years I had been looking forward to april and may of 2010. These were supposed to be the happy months where I would find out if I got into a nursing program. I applied to 5 schools and I have only gotten back 2 responses so far. I'm on the waiting list for both. One said it only has 75 on the waiting list but the other one didn't say. They say they can't tell me my number for confidential reasons. I was nervous for a long time about getting in but the past three months I felt a lot more sure of myself. I got straight A's on my sciences and was even asked to be a physiology tutor. Anyways, I knew there was still a big chance that I wouldn't get in and I also know there is still a chance at the other three. But each waiting list I get is bringing me down:crying2:. Everyone is telling me I should be happy I got on the waiting list and should just wait to see what happens. But I'm a planner! I like planning for things in advance and I never know if I should be studying ahead of time for my future classes or just reading fun books (though I'm a nerd and kinda like my textbooks:jester:). Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I know exactly how you feel!
I too got straight A's in my prereqs, and am a planner. So far I got one rejection and one "alternate" status - and to make it more frustrating, the school for which I am an "alternate" won't explain exactly what that means. According to what they told me, they do not have a "wait list" and do not assign numbers to applicants (even though they use the lottery system). They could not tell me how they decide which alternate gets in if a spot opens!
Needless to say, frustrating....I can't stand this! I am waiting to hear back from two more schools, and hoping that I won't have to wait and try again until next year
I wish you luck, aubs!

Even if you are on the alternate list there is still a possibility that you could get in. They called my friend 1 week before the semester and told her that she was in. It could happen to u too. Good luck:nurse:
Sounds like a dream come true, want2banurse35. I wouldn't stop dancing the entire week if that happened to me.
And to sheilam, I think I have an idea about that. Chabot says that when they make people "alternates" that they do a whole second drawing after hearing from people who decided they didn't want to go there. So if 10 people got in somewhere else they re-do the drawing with the remaining people. That's why they do not have a waitlist. So maybe it is something like that. On the other hand, I am waitlisted for CSU East Bay and they said they don't tell people their waitlist number for confidentiality reasons. So it could be something like that too. Good luck to you too! It seems like from your other posts you applied to some of the same schools as me.
Thanks Aubs - I applied to Ohlone, chabot, CCSF and Merritt. I was in the 300s for CCSF and am now tearing my hair out about Merritt. Because I don't live in district, I'm not holding out too much hope for Chabot- so Ohlone is my last chance (for this year at least).
How about you? I hope you have had better luck than I have!

So sorry to hear, yet again, that people with As in their prereqs are being rejected. That is depressing news. But getting on an alternate list or waiting list is certainly better than being rejected. If you have to wait and try again I suggest that you take some of the classes you still might need for a BSN, statistics for an example. You can also continue to work and save money for school. Then the time waiting will not have been wasted. Good luck.
I got in to ohlone! YAY!!! Though I am still waiting to hear back from CSU stanislaus. Ohlone is a great school but I really want a BSN. And don't worry to anyone who is on ohlones waiting list. If I do get into stanislaus I will call ohlone the second I find out.
Congrats!
Thanks! I just found out I was number 20. One more person and I would've gotten that damned waiting list letter that I've already got two of. I'm so excited I can't sleep though.
