NELRP 2011 awardees

So, I decided to start the thread as Strider suggested. Great idea ;) for us awardees to start talking. I have read that the way we get further taxed is that this now becomes a part of our reported taxable income when we file taxes, so thats how we are taxed twice unfortunately.

Hi guys, future applicant here. Just wondering what tier the awardees were mostly in? What was the debt to income ratio?

Is there a way to find out how the funds were dispersed based on the tiers?

Does anyone still look at this post? I have received an email for intent to award for 2012. I have one question, if I do get it? The 3rd year at 25%? Is that 25% of what you originally owed or what the balance is at the end of the 2nd year? Because if I do get the award I was going to continue making my monthly payment with the scholarship money? I have read tons of your posts and we have a blog for 2012 and believe me ya'll have kept me going....I didn't receive it last year but hopefully my luck is looking up.

Clarification....I was going to continue my automatic withdrawal and add the scholarship money as extra payment every month...if that makes since...payoff quicker

It's 25% of the original balance.

I received the award for 2013, I was under the assumption that we would have to show payment verification basically showing that we used the loan money to pay our student loans. I just did my 6 month verification and it did not include sending in documents from my loan servicer showing payements. I was curiouse you know if it is possible to use the money for another loan, I have a private parent plus loan not included, under my moms social I would like to pay it off for her, but I dont want to risk messing up the rest of my award.

I think at some point NELRP will ask for a verification from your student loan servicer about your payments, so if they ask about 6mos when it starts then there better be 6 payments made, I don't think it matters how you allocate it. Yes they will do employment verification checks probably quarterly.

They will check to make sure you are using the $ towards the loans. Do NOT apply the money towards any loans that were not included during the application process. That's just asking for trouble!!!

All monies need to go to the loans that were submitted in the application. I have been receiving since 2012 and am in the process of continuation for after August. I think they check and make sure this is done but I do know (now) on continuation that you have to present statements showing money allocated was paid to those loans. A little advise for everyone is I would print off a statement of payments every 6 months, loans transfer and you no longer have access to those accounts and it can be a little more difficult to obtain the information for continuation. Congratulations!!! It is an amazing thing that HRSA is doing!!!!
