NELRP & consolidation

For those of you who have applied for the NELRP...

I graduated in May and want to consolidate my private nursing loans, I wasn't pre-nursing my first semester but my nursing school ended up accepting the courses for transfer (since they were bio, chem, etc anyway). There was a 1 credit course that went along with my chem class on how to solve chem problems. I can't remember if my school accepted this for any credit. I am leary of consolidating my loans, applying for the NELRP and only to find out I'm excluded because of a darn 1 credit class.

The website is wordy but it seems like if you consolidate your loans and have one component of the loan that is not nursing related (or has the one class which your nursing school didnt give you credit for) the entire consolidation loan is not eligible. OR is it that you can prove which parts of the loan were when you were a pre-nursing/nursing major.

I plan on contacting HRSA during the next business day but thought maybe one of you had an answer.

Thanks!!

I think what they're mostly looking for is that the loans you took out were for school related costs and the dates of the loans match up with the dates you report for your school enrollment. Your master promissory notes aren't going to list which classes your loans were used to pay for - they just usually generically say "tuition and fees" or something. You should be okay. If you are asking for NELRP for a consolidated loan, you need your original master promissory notes or a consolidation promissory note that includes the original disbursement amounts and dates and reason (tuition & fees) for the loans.

The HRSA call center is pretty helpful to explain all this - still call them to make sure I told you right!
