needle-stick injury

I am considering becoming a nurse. However, the possibility of dying due to a needle-stick injury is one factor that is holding me back. After reviewing stats on the internet, this seems to be a significant risk. Any thoughts?

I have had one needle stick in the five years that I have been a nurse. Somehow when I went to put the needle shield after I gave the insulin, I stuck my finger with it. It happened so fast that I am really not sure how I even did it. It did make me more aware of what I am doing. Now I do not do anything else until that needle is in the sharps.
