needing a shoulder

Well, I have made it 2 and almost 1/2 weeks in my first semester of Nursing school. I suppose I can look at it as only 13 1/2 to go. I am feeling so overwhelmed. I am doing fine, I passed my first test and passed my med calc test on the first try but, I am exhausted. It has to be exhaustion, I don't know what else it could be. There is so much more work/time required then just lectures and classtime. I knew I'd have to read a lot but, we have videos we have to do on our own time and computer supplemented learning also. I am trying to maintain this normal household without turning into a maniac or slob and it's killing me. Being a slob is not an option for me. I am trying to set an example for my children, I can't just let everything else in my life fall to sh!t just b/c I am in school. I have put so much on my husband's shoulders this week and I feel like it's just not fair to him. He's so absolutely supportive of me. I have had a headache for days and I feel like I just can't relax. I guess I just need to cry and get it out. I know I'll do this b/c I want it so bad. I feel like I nedd a week off to recuperate already. I just need to talk to those who undestand and know where I am at in life right now. Thanks for the vent.

Suzi

Hi Suzi,

you probably are just tired. The good news is that there are ways to combat the need to be tidy and neat and study and be super mom.

If you are already tidy, you can try using:

flylady.com she does daily challenges that are usually pretty small and somehow keep even a busy household clean and presentable...

Also some other tips are things that seem silly but aren't so silly- have one night a week, where you use paper plates/napkins etc for dinner, so that there is no major clean up involved. You could even order out that night so no work for you. FLy Lady has some more as well.

Otherwise, what you are experiencing is also the big adjustment to school. It will eventually get easier as you go along- you will learn ways to manage things more effectively as you adjust into the program. I learned to study while doing dishes and stuff like that...

You are going to do just fine...Hang in there:specs:

Suzi....

Hang in there!!! :wink2:

I'm in my last semester, and yes, it seems overwhelming now...but this too shall change!!

My idea of nursing school was blown to shreds when I actually started!

I knew it would be time consuming...BUT NOT THAT TIME CONSUMING!!! :nono: :Crash:

You will survive this and the time will fly past! Just don't give in to the insanity of things and you'll be fine!!!

As for the house....you'll find a way to make it all come together! Even if you have to shove everyone in a room with a can opener and some pork and beans and screamin' "see you at the end of the semester!!!"

Good Luck!!

I'm hoping that after the first few weeks I can get a better system down of how much to study, how to study effectiveley etc.. I ended up in the ER from a stomach bug this past weekend, needing IV fluids. I kept telling myself " It's only the first week, I can't get sick!"

Take care yourself....REALLY!! Not to discourage you, but it doesnt get much better/easier, it is a lot of "self-teaching" and endless studying so the best thing you can do is to take care physcially, do things mentally that relieve stress and burnout, most of all vent on chat boards like these....they make you feel like your not alone!!:)

Hugs to you! You are not alone. Unfortunately, most of the time we are our own worst enemy. We feel, being women, that we have to be 100% successful 100% of the time...we weren't made for that no matter what any one says. Having said that, I am also that way. I am in Grad school and working full time. I want to keep everything the same...I can't. I pick one time during the week to do a pick up and clean and then enlist the hubby and son to help. One day when you are out of school, your house can be perfect, etc. but for now go easy on yourself. Concentrate on your family and school and the rest will fall into place. Good luck.

P.S. that "website" that the other poster talked about is fabulous, but don't try everything at once! :)

Ok now you are scaring me!! LOL j/k

I guess it has been going around. Luckily it happened on the weekend, so I had a day and half to recouperate. They did say my bilirubin was a bit elevated so I should get a GB ultrasound, ( sure I'll fit that right in!!) I think I need to invest in some carnation instant breakfast or something to get my morning nutrients. I am taking baby steps- looking towards spring break ;)

I bought some Ensure, from Walmart, last week...just for this reason. If I forget/can't have breakfast, it's in the fridge in the garage.

It's so nice to talk to people that understand and can empathize, you guys are great! :)

My hubby saw how exhausted I was after classes yesterday, yet had to bake cupcakes for my son's birthday treat, make dinner, do dishes,do 2 loads of laundry etc etc, then up at 1 a.m. with a coughing 6 year old with 101 temp. At least he felt sorry for me and cleaned up the kitchen LOL
