Need Written Info on CPR for Health Care Professionals

Published

I'm a first year nursing student and took a CPR class are required to start nursing school. It was hurried through, and the instructor kept making side remarks and I found it hard to follow him. I am also a visual learner and learn better when I have reading material. There was no reading material of any sort offered.

I just want to refresh a few things and there was nothing written down in the 1-hour course, but when I go to the websites, they tell you to check the carotid pulse, and we were taught NOT to do that, and that checking pulses is no longer in the protocol. Also, we were not taught much about exactly when to use the defibrillator, and one website said to do CPR for 2 minutes before using defibrillator. There is too much of a mixture of information, and some of the websites are listing 2005 protocols and I need the latest protocols. Is there somewhere on the web where I can find what the CURRENT protocol is, without having to pay for another course. I just need to review a few fine points that I don't feel completely clear on. I know CPR basics, but there are still some things they keep changing that I need to make sure I'm understanding completely correctly.

This is from the American Heart Association and is the most current guideline as far as I know:

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

The UK resus council has some good educational resources as well.

Oh and just wanted to add that the 2005 guidelines are the current recommendations. They will more than like be updated next year
