need work while preparing and going through nursing school

Published

Hello! I am retaking some of my prereqs (as they are past 5 yrs old). I am currently unemployed and will be taking the cna class in March. I am a single mother so I need to work as well. I want to start getting some experience in healthcare. CNAs do not make enough money to support me and 2 small children. My Queston is would I be able to qualify to work as a LPN while I continue with school? If so how would I go about doing so? Thank you for your input! Best wishes to you all!

I do not know of any state that would allow someone without a lisence to work as an LPN. You may want to consider looking for another job that pays better and only work as a CNA per diem. Good luck!

To become an LPN, you would need to apply, be accepted, and start at an LPN nursing program, which lasts between 12 and 18 months, depending on the school. After you graduate, you must sit for the NCLEX-PN exam, and pass it to obtain licensure as an LPN. Like RN's, LPN's are nurses as well, and must go through, and graduate, a nursing program as well as passing the NCLEX.

Thank you so much! I kinda figured. I already have my bachelors but going for the associates in nursing as a career change. I will try to tough it out financially with the nursing bc its not going to work out paying for the LPN and then bridge into the RN as I can only get unsubsidized loans. Plus I don't want to prolong it anymore than it is.

If you already have a degree have you considered an accelorated BSN? It would take about the same amount of time as the ADN.
