I am an International RN licensed in NY. Looking for sponsorship/VisaScreen to get into the USA but agencies are asking for recent experience as a must-have. Is it normal? I have 2 years of experience in PCU/Floating. Just a 1-year gap from my last job. I graduated in the best year 2020. I am almost there but I found myself stuck now.

Agencies often prioritize recent experience because it demonstrates that your skills and knowledge are up-to-date, which is crucial for patient safety and effective practice.

However, your two years of experience in PCU/Floating are valuable, and a one-year gap isn't insurmountable.

Here are a few steps you can take:

  • Reach out to different agencies. Some agencies might be more flexible with their requirements. Keep contacting other agencies and explain your situation.
  • Consider a refresher course. Taking a refresher course can help demonstrate your commitment to maintaining your skills and knowledge, which might make agencies more willing to sponsor you.
  • Look for temporary positions. Some facilities might offer temporary or per diem positions that can help you get recent experience and bridge the gap.
  • Highlight your experience. Emphasize your two years of experience in PCU/Floating and any additional skills or certifications you have.

Networking. Connect with other international nurses who have successfully navigated this process. They might have valuable insights and recommendations for agencies or strategies that worked for them. Check out the International Nursing Forum here online.

Best wishes,
