I have to think of a topic to make and an hour long teaching presentation to a local women's correctional facility. This topic has to be related to Medical Surgical (common health problems) nursing. Please help with any ideas!!!! You don't know how much I would appreciate it

How about Osteorporosis Prevention?

Substance Abuse?

Sexual health issues and STD's?

Smoking, Lung Cancer?

Hepatitis C?

An hour is a long time for a presentation. Make some handouts. Involve the inmates. Question and Answer period.

Number one killer of women- heart disease. Ask them to fill out a questionaire- what they think it the cause of most deaths- lung cancer, car accidents, heart attacks, etc. then shock them with the news. Alot of women think heart attacks are "mens" health issues

I suggest including the following to your teaching regimen: the common diseases seen in these facilities and their prevention, importance of personal hygiene, handwashing, physical fitness, vaccination, smoking cessation, the no-no's of shared needle use, etc...
