need RN school advice

Published

Hi everyone, I am very new to this and would like to know how I can go about getting my RN the fastest way? I am a medical assistant with ten years experience. I have no pre requisites and I actually wanted to know what pre reqs do I need to take in order to get my asn for rn? Can I take these pre reqs on line? I was thinking about going to Keiser, but I hear it is way too expensive and that If I want to continue my education to get my BSN in nursing I can only do with them that is about $60.000 in total geesh!

Please guide me through this. I have no clue. I am looking to do this , but at the same time I have children in school and was hoping the school I attend lets out before the children do. I also work nights. Thanking you in advance!!!!!!!Copy%20of%20wink.gif

Start looking into local community colleges that offer ASN. Most pre-req's are going to be basic english, math (Algebra), humanities, microbiology - etc. You can see how much each credit hour is going to cost you. Some colleges have programs that will pay for you to go through Nursing Classes if you work full time (at certain hospitals) for 2 years. Just depends on the school! No way my schooling cost 60 grand! That's absolutely ridiculous! Good Luck!:wink2:

My school costs $7k for the two years plus all the pre-reqs (28credits X $75/hr)

I am in the RN program currently at VCC. The prereqs you need that you can take online are English 1, Intro to Psych, Developmental Psych, Nutrition and Medical Ethics(pretty sure medical ethics is online). The required prereqs that you have to take on campus are Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology 1 and A/P 2. The prereqs you can take through most of the campuses however the Nursing program itself is only at the West Campus on Kirkman. You have to complete (totally complete) all the prereqs before you can apply and then it is one year before you start. I think it is about $70/credit.

The great thing about VCC is it is not a points admission which means as long as you have C's in the prereqs or higher you're in.

In contrast, SCC is on a points system and as long as you rank high up in the points you get in with no wait. The points reflect your grades in the prereqs and how many of the prereqs you have completed.

I am happy at Valencia. Even though my grades are great I basically chose VCC over SCC just because it was closer to me. I am glad I did. So far the teachers have been wonderful.

Good Luck!

I agree with the others, community college is the best.

Keiser, since its not fully accredited, to get your BSN you have to get it thru them, or a private institution that takes their credits. I know a woman from keiser and she is doing her bachelor's at jacksonville university online.

It is pretty expensive there though- $24K per year for 2 years without pre-reqs
