Apr 24, 20179 yr I am new to peds and dont have any videos to recommend but thought I would stil share. In my hospital we often grab a warm blanket and burrito the child in with only the extremity that is needed sticking out. We do this mainly for IVs but I think it could work fairly well for sutures too. Just wrap the burrito tight because kids are stronger than we think! Probably works best in the 3 and under crowd. Once they get past that age range the saying " It takes a village" should be taken literally whenever possible. Always good to have a holder and a doer as nurses on my unit say (although this isn't always possible just because of the nature of nursing lol), and it also always depends on the kid, their resistance, understanding, strength, etc.
Apr 24, 20179 yr Read up on comfort holds for medical procedures. Comfort holds can be a very effective, therapeutic way to reduce the amount of restraint needed and provide safe care. http://www.nationwidechildrens.org/comfort-hold-techniquesI also sincerely hope you're using physical restraint in addition to anesthetic and anxiolytic medications. Solely holding a child down to perform a painful procedure is traumatizing and cruel.
