Need to re-take the NCLEX after the 8th year of lapse and possible concurrency issue

Published

I just posted up on another thread about the issue of those not having a SS# but did already PASSED the NCLEX-RN in CA in the previous years.

Below is the CA application for those who have passed but not yet had the CA license issued yet due to not having a SS# and you're now looking at the 8th year or more of your NCLEX passing month and year.

RETAKE of the NCLEX AFTER the 8th year by the CA BRN:

http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/8yr_retake.pdf

CA BRN and many other states will NOT process the application if you don't have a SS# to give to them, this SS# is the one that allows one to work, not for driving or ID purposes.

If you do submit the application, along with the required fees, just know that any and all fees submit to the CA BRN is NOT REFUNDABLE, kiss it by-bye.

But I think there poses a much larger problem for those that do not have a SS# or even if you do: the 8th year Re-take application needs to REVIEW your transcripts AGAIN!

You'll be applying again as a first-timer or as an endorser, just know this holds true for any and all lapsed applicants, whether you're a local or out of state nurse or an international one.

Do you guys want to take a good guess on what's going to happen to your application upon their review?

Since there have been very little mention of those that took the NCLEX years ago and with the enforcement of the old concurrency rules, I think you know the answer to that. It all remains to be seen in the near future on the plight of the PH nurses. even if one has a SS# but waited too long to get it submitted or simply let it lapsed-expired due to family matters, other personal reasons, whatever.

From CA BRN site:

10. What is the difference between a lapsed license and an inactive license?

A lapsed license is one in which the renewal fees have not been paid. An inactive license is one in which the renewal fees have been paid, but the continuing education requirement has not been met. Practice as a registered nurse in California is not permitted with either a lapsed or inactive license.

14. What can I do to become a nurse again after my license has lapsed?

If it has been less than eight years since the license has expired, a licensee can renew his or her license by paying the delinquent renewal fee of $205, and providing proof of completing 30 hours of continuing education taken within the last two years of the date renewing. If it has been longer than eight years, the RN must also provide proof of a current active license in another state. If the RN does not have a current, active license in another state, then the RN must apply for the 8 Year Retake Examination.

I wish to correct this thread I started, there's been a recent update to another poster that didn't have a SS# after passing the NCLEX-RN (but NEVER was issued the license) and approaching the 8th year since passing the NCLEX-RN.

It appears that this policy above is applicable to those that did receive their RN license in CA, but let it expired beyond the time they actually received the license, NOT from the month/year of the NCLEX-RN passage.

Meaning to say I should not worry about that 8 year limitation? thanks again steppybay!
