Need normal monitoring values

Specialties PICU

Published

I am still on orientation (week 12) and I would love for someone to help me organize a normal values (ICP's, EtCo2's, etc...) list so that I can review it and put it in my cheat sheet binder. Also, does anyone else have problems organizing lines and have difficulty with stopcocks? I hate those things,...they confuse me so. I feel like my main problems so far in the PICU are,...lines, stopcocks, and trying to figure out where to put things such as meds, and electrolyte replacements? Please help me someone! I am very eager and love the PICU, but sometimes I feel so STUPID

Here are some to put on your list:

SBP minimum 70+(2X age in years)

CVP 5-10

LAP 4-12

ICP 0-10 (may range 7-15 in supine to -10 when fully upright)

SpO2 93-100 (except in preterm neonates and cyanotic cardiac lesions)

ETCO2 35-45

PaO2 80-100

paCO2 35-45

HCO3 22-26

pH 7.35-7.45

Maintenance fluid calculation 100 mL/kg for up to 10 kg + 50 mL/kg for next 10 kg + 10 mL/kg for each additional kg.

The easiest way to keep track of your lines is to label each of them at both ends. I label the pump (our SmartPumps have scrolling labels on them) and then put a paper label around the tubing just below the Luer lock attachment. Then when I want to know what I have infusing into a line or stopcock, I just have to look at the label. As for knowing where to run things, you'll have to look up compatbilities every time, until you start remembering them. All of these can run together at the standard concentrations: morphine, midazolam, milrinone, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, vasopressin, dextrose, saline, potassium, nitroprusside. Furosemide doesn't like a lot of things, and neither does lipid emulsion/propofol. Prostaglandin E1 is thought to be incompatible with everything. Time will help you remember all of this.
