Need a non-certified private loan ASAP

Published

I need to find a good lender from which to get a private loan that doesn't need to be certified by my school. Any suggestions? I've been googling all of the net and it's all starting to run together...

Here's my problem... I have a financial aid package for my BSN program starting in September so I'm good there. But I'm having trouble affording all of the things I need to buy BEFORE school starts...just my books run $750-1000 just for one semester. I still have to buy uniforms, shoes, lab kit, stethoscope, etc. etc. PLUS all of the "recommended but not required" things like a PDA... My laptop is no longer under warranty and on its last leg--it would be cheaper to replace it than to gut it and try to rebuild it.

I really want to make sure I have everything I need because I want to be as prepared as possible--I know nursing school is no cakewalk. I have gone through a lot to get here and I for damn sure am not going to let all my hard work go to waste. The financial aid office recommends making all these purchases with a credit card and paying them back with our refund checks--but I'm already maxed out between paying cash for summer classes, and all the background checks, drug tests, CPR certification, multiple copies of transcripts, deposit to hold my spot etc. etc. I've had to obtain recently! :sstrs:

The problem with school-certified private loans is not the fact that the school has to certify them...but that the lender sends the funds directly to the school...and I won't get it until refunds go out in October! So I need a loan that will disburse the funds directly to me so that I can get all of the things that I need. I'm not looking for a large loan--just something I can use to get set-up. I can even repay it with my financial aid refund in October.

Any suggestions? Should I be looking at "regular" loans as opposed to those specifically for students? I'm already stressed out and nursing school hasn't even started yet!

I know this is over 1 year old, but what wound up happening? I'm in the same situation right now. My school told me I can apply for the Wells Fargo Student Connection with a co-signer, but I don't know how hard they are to get. I have bad credit, but my co-signer has AMAZING credit, owns his own buisness for 30+ years, etc.

I never got a private loan--couldn't find/qualify for one. I ended up squeezing the absolute essentials onto credit cards and paying it back and getting everything else when my refund came. My schools seems to process them pretty quickly so it worked out. Now I generally use the refund from one semester to pay for the next, so I have my stuff before class starts.

Good luck to you.
