Experience as an LPN is not considered towards experience needed as an RN when it comes to a travel assignment. That is a definitely a fact with On Assignment. I work for On Assignment and at this point would not consider working for anyone else.
Get your experience, you take on a completely different set of responsibilities when you are the RN on the floor.
Good luck to you................ :)
I am with RN Network and I know they also will not count LPN toward experience as RN. It may also vary from hospital to hospital. Just be aware when you do take a travel assignement, they expect you to be up and running independently very quickly. I have had as little as 4 hours orientation to a new facility, so all the experience you can get will be to your benefit later. They know you will need a little time to get up to speed with their particular flow of things, charting, doctors, routines etc. But they do not expect to have to be a resourse for general nursing knowledge. Good luck. Travel is a challenging, and wonderful way to spend at least part of your nursing career.

I was an LPN before I became an RN and my agency is the same as most of the other companies. I could work as an LPN after I had 2 years experience, but could not travel as an RN until I had 2 years RN experience. The nice thing about mine is the fact that they have LPN positions, as well as RN positions.
It depends on the hospital/facility whether or not they will take a new RN, and YES there are new RN, or RN who have not worked in a long time, who have been hired by facilities. Just depends on your experience level, references, how confidient you are in your skilss, and how badly the facilities needs are.

I have been searching for different agencies for a few days now. I have seen many bad reviews on AMN and Aureus. The good reviews have been on Supplemental and On Assignment. I need more info on these agencies and any others that you have good experience with. I also would like to know if you have any info on experience required for travel agencies. I just passed my NCLEX-RN but have been practing as a LVN/LPN on a medicine/oncology unit for two years and am chemo certified. How will this effect my "experience required" status?
