Need information regarding taking NCLEX without local board

Published

Dear Friends,

I have a predicament about my son who would like to take the NCLEX but he wasn't able to take the Philippine Nursing Exam. He's now in the U.S.. Do you know any State (Board of Nursing) that will allow him to take the NCLEX without the local board?

Thank you.

It all depends on which state he wants to work in, just because he applies to another state doesn't mean he will be able to endorse, he will always have to meet foreign nurse requirements even when endorsing. He may want to consider taking the exam but a lot will depend on where he aims to work

Just to add he isn't applying for NCLEX but licensure to be a RN of which NCLEX is just a part of that process

Thank you for your repsonse. I was hoping that I will be feed in with information of which States(BON) that will not require a local nursing board exam in order to qualify him to take the NCLEX.

As I said it all goes on which state he wants to work in, if they require a local license then he needs to find out if they will accept him endorsing from another state with no local license. Better to actually speak to the board of nursing as they at the end of the day will have the final say

If your son wishes to work in a state that actually requires the local license, then by going thru another state and then trying to endorse back again will not cover the requirements.

Once one has passed the NCLEX exam, those results are accepted by all 50 states as well as the US territories; however, it does not mean that his license is then automatically accepted by the new state. One needs to meet the specific requirements for the new state, and they are usually the same whether for first time tester or for endorsement concerning the local license requirement.

Where did your son go to school, was he permitted to sit for the local license in that country or was it not permitted? That would also be a question to know as well. Not all are permitted to sit for the local license where they attended school so that makes things different as well, but you have never explained where he trained or anything else. Is he a US citizen or green card holder as well? Does he hold dual citizenship also?

With the little information that you have provided it is impossible to give you a specific answer to what you are trying to find out. There are so many variables added into this.
