need info

My mother was a RN and I am currently studying under a Biology Major curriculum. I was interested in switching to pre-nursing at the University of Maryland. I have an orientation for more info on what exactly is expected of an RN and possibly a labor and delivery nurse. I was hoping to get a head start on the idea of what is expected from this career and how to become specialized in Labor and Delivery. I have been able to give myself shots since I was younger to administer my own medicine. One thing im not interested in is working in the emergency room. I have a large interest in delivering babies and mother care. Can I just specialize in this or do I have to experience in surgery and ER too?

I'm just starting to get info so anything general is amazing!

Specializes in Critical Care.

Being a RN gives you so many options that may are not aware of until they actually get into the field. In nursing school you will receive training that will show you the different areas and what is expected. By doing clinical you will get the hands experience with many type's of speciality's but you will know what you like and dislike.

If you feel that it is the way to go then go for it! It is a life changing decision.

Good luck with your decision ;)
