wondering if there is a nursing field specializing in the care of parkinsons patients???? I would like to know anything on this subject. I am from Kentucky and have asked many people and Dr. offices about this......no one seems to know anything about it....how sad! I want to start school soon and this is what I would like to do.

I've never heard of a specialty strictly for Parkinson's. The closest I think is in some sort of neuro or rehab. I'd think people in OT/PT would work very closely with people with the disease. But this is just my guess.

Haven't relly heard of specialty units for Parkinson's but I know they have Alzheimer's (sp) wards and I think when a person gets far enough along in Parkiinson's they sometimes put them on theses wards. Maybe you could initiate something like what you are looking to do. I am not sure of the incidence of Parkinson's I mean related to number per thousands etc. I don't know if there is a big enough field in a community to warrant such a specialty unit.
Good question though Like I said perhaps this something you cna advocate and promote to a LTC in you area.

I work on a Dementia Special Needs unit and we deal with a lot of people who have parkinsons because of the associated dementia.
