need info about marymount's bsn program

U.S.A. Virginia

I am applying to Marymount's BSN program as a transfer student for Fall 2011. I was wondering if anyone knew how competitive it is to get into this program? I took the TEAS V and I got an adjusted individual score of 86.7% but my gpa is a little low at 3.1 because of one messed up class..(not a science or anything that's even needed for nursing). Is there anyone out there that has been accepted to this program that can tell me what their grades were and also if they like being at marymount? I'm applying to a bunch of different schools but at at this point I'm liking Marymount the most and I'd love some actual experience and time there to let me know what they think. I'm from California and would love to live so near D.C.

Oh and CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING IN!!!!!! :-) If you're going to be in Arlington anyway, I can't think of a better situation. Remember, everybody who is a nurse has toldme that it really doesn't matter where you go to school!

Are you waiting to hear back from any other DC-area schools?

One final thing. I went to visit the school in January and they had just opened a brand new building all for nursing and health sciences! The building is AMAZING! Honestly, if they're investing that much in the program it can only be good news for us! They had a bunch of nursing labs and it looked like a really really great place to learn. I realllllly hope I get in!! Beverly25, where did you get your undergrad degree in and what was your major?

I went to a really big undergrad program too..and i hated it!! i went to uc berkeley..and i always felt like i was drowning in those huge classes. that's my main reason for really wanting to go to marymount because i found somewhere that 50% of their classes are 20 people or less..and i like that it's 75% female...i went to an all girls high school and i miss that type of environment.

the thing is i didnt apply for the accelerated program because my grades for my undergrad were really bad (i had a bad boyfriend at the time and i was always going through drama and really just let everything deteriorate) so i applied as a transfer student instead. im really, really excited that i got in...and i think that if you're hearing really good things about the nursing program then that's all im going to worry about. i just sent in my deposit and intent to enroll. :D let me know when you hear from them!!

do you have aim? i'd love to chat about school and the area in general if you do....let me know...

oh forgot to add that my undergrad degree is in african american studies...and that i'm still waiting to hear back from georgetown...i'm still waiting to hear from other schools as well but not in the d.c. area and so i feel like even if i got in i wouldnt go there..

i feel like i wouldn't go to georgetown if i was accepted either just because i already got my own taste of a big school with a big name and hated it.

where did you go? and what degree did you get?

so i can't send direct messages!! so annoying!! i got yours and would like to talk about the area you live in...we're looking for places to live now (bc we'll be moving there by july 1st) and it's sort of hard when you don't know what's a good area and what's not.

and i'm totally on the same page as you as far as georgetown...(ie, i think it's a long shot for me too and i wouldn't even go there unless they offered me all kinds of money!) ;)

you can email me if you want.. [email protected]

this was meant for AMM430 but i can't send dm's so i just posted it here...but anyone here could respond if they know the answers to these questions...;)

hey so did you hear from marymount? i just found out that i got in...but after reading some of these posts i'm getting freaked out! my fiancee is in the coast guard and he recently got orders to arlington, va so when i first got the acceptance i was so excited...

i'm curious to know if marymount is really that awful...or if i just need to be my toes about everything???

I agree! I have been accepted as well and a lot of these posts are really, really turning me off from the program.

From what I've heard it's not that bad. Seems like it can be disorganized as far as administration is concerned...but I really don't know of a school that's not. Are you going to accept and attend? Email me if you are! :)

I'm not sure yet... I haven't heard back from two of the other programs I applied to, so I'm not quite ready to make that decision yet!

How dare you! You hide here behind your silly little name and bash a good institution and good people. You are pathetic and sad. Calling someone a Devil is not only unprofessional, it really smacks of a child who is angry and not happy with herself and her life choices. The Dean of Marymount University has fought so hard for that program, and the pass rates are out of this world so know what the hell you are talking about before you spit up all over the place. Get over yourself, stand on your own two feet, be an outstanding caregiver or get out of nursing! You spread your petty little sadness to others who are already in a state of fear and concern for their future and you puke out this trash. I hope your new boss knows the kind of person they have hired and you will find some way to make real meaning out of your little horrible attitude. We are blessed to be nurses, our teachers and schools may all have issues, but when it comes down to it we need to step up and be professionals and bring some sense of peace and help to those who need it. If you want a kick ass nursing program, Marymount is for you!

@Carol Martin: For what it's worth, the positive experiences I have had at Marymount so far outweigh the negative comments on this message board.

I understand that some get frustrated with school administration, and I remember from college that it can be frustrating (that goes for any school). But, like I said, I have to go by my own experiences with the school and those have been VERY positive, so far!

I would still be THRILLED to go to school there!! :-) Let's hope I get in!
