I have a question about nursing interventions that I need help with, my instructor said during lecture that there are 3 types:

1. Dependent

2. Independent

3. Interdependent

Does anyone have a definition for this?

Thanks

What does your text say about it?

Independent interventions are those that a nurse can do one her own without any orders, or any need to consult with anyone else about it.

Such as: a nurse finds that her pt is short of breath, she can respostion him to facilitate his breathing.

But, the nurse does have to know if this would be contraindicated based on her pt's condition.

SOB would require several interventions. Some that a nurse can do independantly, some the are at a doc's order, and others which may require her to work with other disciplines (resp therapy).

A nurse cannot independently order a nebulizer tx for a pt, but she can call and request the order, or decide when to give a tx that is ordered PRN.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

These sound like author specific terms. I've heard primarily of independent (nurse can do on their own) and collaborative (require the assistance of another licensed healthcare professional to perform) interventions. I think you will need to clarify this with your instructor. You could try an Internet search. You could try contacting another student in your class to see what they got from the lecture.
