Any peds nurses on, please...my 17 month old son spiked a temp of 103.5 rectally this afternoon just out of the blue. He has no symptoms of anything. No runny or stuffy nose, no cough, my ear check says fluid unlikely in one ear and monitor in the other. He's just cut 4 molars but I know you can't get a fever with teething above 102 (If that is even real!) I gave him the 1.825 dropper of advil 4 hours ago and he's only dropped to 101.5 rectally. I am worried about him. He's acting normal, maybe a tad bit quieter than usual. What can cause a temp like that from no where with no visible signs at all? the on call Dr was no help, he told me to check with my Ped in the AM...GRRRRRR!
Thanks,

Just something to remind yourself...you do not need permission from your ped to go to the ER. I'm the same as you though, I want my worries validated by my ped and only feel justified in going there (to the ER) when I have been told too by my ped. In the end though, trust your instincts, or even if you are worried, it's worth the peace of mind. No ER doc in their right mind would be upset with you taking in a kid with a temp of 105. At our ER I once overheard a mom say that they never even took a temp and the child woke up crying, that's it, that's why they're in the ER, LOL! And plenty of people use the ER as their pcp. I've spent a lot of time in the ER with my little one and it's always a bit comical what parents will bring their children in for, but, they're worried and that's why they have a system to code the kids/adults according to urgency.
