someone told me that they were involved in some program that pays for their training as a nurse as long as they stay in west virginia and work for a certain amount of time after they are certified. im really interested in learning more about programs like this but i don't know where to look!!! if anyone knows anything about any programs in west virginia like this, please e-mail me and let me know!! i attended marshall university several years ago but had to drop out because of financial strains and since then have been working as a bartender/server. i'm so so tired of not getting anywhere in life!!! i want to get back into school but they make it so hard!!! i'd really like to get into the medical field but need help!!!thanks jennifer

I have not heard of any program like the one you posted about in years. At one time LPN schools had a program like this in some areas. Now, d/t economic changes I have not heard of one for years.

Have you inquired with the WV Nurses Association to see if they have any info on this type of program? Contacted the different nursing schools for info?

I wish you luck in obtaining your goal.

The financial aid office at your prospective institution(s) will have lots of info about financial aid, and a FAFSA application that you should submit by March 1. In my experience, visiting in person is more useful than calling or writing, if you go at non-peak times. Right at the change of semesters is usually too busy to get much personal attention, but around now they might have time to help you through the process a bit. (You could try calling in advance to make an appointment with a financial aid advisor, or just take a chance dropping in during regular business hours.)

Good luck.

The West Virginia Center for Nurisng http://www.wvcenterfornursing.org has scholarship money available for individuals who have completed 50% of their program. Yes, there is a work requirement involved.

Nursemike is correct, go to your local college or university and apply with the financial aid office. There is plenty of money available, you just have to apply. Good luck!:nurse:

Thank you guys for replying with your suggestions! I can't go the FAFSA route because I already did the first time i went to college. Those loans went into default because I had a hard time paying them. I applied to financial aid last year and was told that I have to pay off my previous loans before I could get more to go back and finish my degree! So I've been slowly but surely trying to obtain that goal but its hard!! The fact is..i screwed up in my early 20's financially and am now suffering for it!!! I just wish i could turn back time, go back with what i know now and start over!!! (but doesn't everyone? haha) I did way too good all my life in school and I feel like im wasting my potential!! I absolutely loved going to class and learning my field (which was communication disorders when i went to Marshall University). I always wanted to be the first in my family to graduate college and not work a minimum wage job and struggle through life, living paycheck to paycheck!! The frustrating part is that I have the brain, dedication, and heart to accomplish that but not the money!!! Sorry for sounding like Debbie Downer, im just stuck between a rock and a hard place!!!

Hi Ella,

Well, attempt to look at things with a triffle more positive attitude. Keep paying on those loans, attempt to take a class a semester, and one day in the future you will have obtained your goal. I know how hard that is to do, but many times the things we need most to do are the hardest to do. I wish you good luck and blessing.

There is another option you can look into. Some hospitals once you are accepted to a program will do a contract with you and pay for your school for say 2 years work in return. I know this to be true because I am apart of one. The contract I accepted was with a hospital in KY. The company that owns this hospital owns many hospitals in the United States, so they may own one near you. If you would like to call the hospital I am in contract with and discuss this you can call 606-638-9451 they can tell you more about it. Hope this helps!

Do call the West Virginia Nurses Association (WVNA). They gave me a scholarship for my MSN at WVU. And, I know they gave scholarships for RN and BSN programs in the past.

I agree with barefootlady, Ella, the only way to attract what you want is to focus on it with gratitude for all the gifts you have been given so far. Think positive, Expect the Best! ; ) Aila
