BSN and ADN, both ARE RN's!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 2007 West Liberty State College (BSN Program) and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Kanawha Valley and Moorefield Cohorts, (ADN Program) had 100% pass rates on the NCLEX-RN. It is extremely important to check out pass rates on the national licesure exam. This will tell you the quality of the program. Good luck!

Gospel, I hate to burst your bubble:nono:, however West Liberty State College and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College had the best pass rates in WV in 2007, 100%. Same is true for Southern in 2006, 100%.

The West Virginia Center for Nurisng http://www.wvcenterfornursing.org has scholarship money available for individuals who have completed 50% of their program. Yes, there is a work requirement involved. Nursemike is correct, go to your local college or university and apply with the financial aid office. There is plenty of money available, you just have to apply. Good luck!

:balloons:Happy Birthday West Virginia Nurses! This week the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses and the West Virginia Nurses Association Celebrated 100 Years of Nursing in WV. Additionally, the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses Celebrates 50 Years of Nursing. This has been a tremendous week. First the West Virginia Center for Nursing hosted a seminar on Wednesday regarding the aging workforce. It was great! The West Virginia Nursing Education Foundation (ADDNE) held their fall meeting on Thursday and a tremendous workshop today. The workshop focused on using technology in nursing education. Thursday evening the WV RN Board, along with the WV Center for Nursing, held a gala celebration at the Cultural Center. Dr. Lucille Joel was the keynote speaker. Dr. Joel is Professor of Nursing at Rutgers University in New Jersery. The Gala was a great event and Laura Rhodes, MSN, RN, Executive Director of the RN Board is to be commended for this wonderful event. There was a harpist prior to the event, bag pipes, the Air National Guard, Governor Manchin attended, Delegate Barbara Hatfield, RN, other legislators and chamber music after the presentations. It was awsome. Laura and the Board staff did an exceptional job. I will never forget it! This evening the WV Nurses Association held their 100th Year Gala Celebration. Dr. Kathy Player, second vice president from the American Nurses Association was the keynote speaker. Saturday the events will conclude with speakers and events throughout the day. These events provided the opportunity for all nurses to come together and celebrate the remarkable profession of nursing. Again Happy Birthday to all Nurses in West Virginia!:balloons:

West Virginia State will not graduate their firt class until this May. It is a very new program. Noryn, what year did you graduate from Southern? I graduated in 1977 and you are right Southern was not a very good program for several years. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and wonderful faculty to gain the reputation of "best program in WV". Many people still do not know how good the program is, 100% pass rate last year and passage in the 90's and 100 for the past several years. Southern has sites in Logan, Kanawha Valley, and Moorefield. I am extremely proud to say I am a graduate of Southern!

Southern only requires an overall GPA of 2.0. Selection is based on a point system. An ACT composite score of 25 will give you points, as will grades of "B" or better in EN 101 and EN 102, and Human Anatomy I and II. If you have certifications, ie CNA, EMT-B, etc, or degrees you will receive points. Finally you must achieve 100 or better on the NLN Pre-RN exam. This year 214 points were possible on the exam. The only pre-reqs are the eligibility to enter college level English or math. This may be achieve by ACT or ASSET scores, having enrolled in, or compelted EN 101 and math 100 level or higher, or having taken developmental courses. Southern's program is very competitive, but what do you expect from the number 1 nursing program in WV. Good luck!

Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College has a site at Institute. The nursing program had 100% pass rate in 2006 on the national licensure exam. Hospitals in the Charleston area are extremely pleased with Southern's graduates. The graduates are professional and ready for the real world of nursing. The application deadline for Southern's program is January 31, 2007. You can check out the program and criteria at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Please remember, no matter if you graduate from and associate degree or bachelor degree nursing program you will take the same licensure exam. Also, you will have the same license, RN, and receive the same pay. Good luck with your search and your education. :)

Diana, Failure to disclose the DUI is a violation in WV. Withholding information or falsifying an application is reason for discipline. Each time it is asked on application you must answer yes, then specify DUI. You have worked very hard though school, it is in your best interest not to do anything to put your license in jeopardy.

Southern's nursing program is in Logan, where 90 students are admitted each year; in the Kanawha Valley, at the Rehab Hospital at Institute, where 24 students are admitted every other year; and in Moorefield, where 16 students are admitted evey other year. Southern also offers A.A.S. programs in Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, and will begin offering a Respiratory Therapy program fall 2006. Everyone at Southern has worked very hard to be the best. This includes all programs. Yes, St. Mary's and Bluefield consistently have high pass rates. They both are very good schools. Don't limit your application to just one program. Apply to as many as you can. If you get admitted to multiple program you will be able to choose the one that is best for you. As for the MSN, you can graduate from the associate degree program, pass the NCLEX-RN and go directly into WVU's MSN. You will finish in 3 years, the program is totally on-line, except for the support courses. I started with an associate degree in nursing, worked several years before going back to school. I obtained a BSN and an MSN from WVU. The ADN program was the best option for me right out of high school. Without the opportunity to achieve my first degree I would never be where I am today.

Noryn, you are correct about Southern. The entire program costs less than $10,000. The pass rates are the best in the state. Southern only admits students at the Kanawha Valley site every other year. The pass rate last year was 100% from that site. Southern will be admitting a new class in the fall of 2007. Pass rate this year for the Logan campus is also 100% with only one student yet to test. The good thing about Southern's program, you can graduate in two years, go directly to work as an RN, and enroll in WVU's MSN program, by passing the BSN. The MSN program is completely on line and most hospitals reimburse for education. No matter where one decides to attend, the final choice needs to be based on pass rates on the NCLEx-RN and the status of the program with the Board of Nursing. All this is public information and students applying to the programs need to be informed. If anyone needs information about Southern's program I would be happy to assist. Applications will be available on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 and the application deadline is January 31, 2007.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I've been on vacation. Back to work today. It's great to hear about your and Robin's new jobs. They sound great. Something I would truely love to do, especially the ED. You both will really love the work. I'm glad the "little one" will be staying for awhile. Bill says hi and he said to tell you congratulations! Barefootlady, WVU is a wonderful school. I would recommend it to anyone. During my MSN program I not only learned about nursing but I learned to write. This has served me well over the years. My professors were the best. Dr. Mona Counts, C-FNP; Sr. Dr. Barbara Kupcheck; and Dr. Mary Jane Smith are the best. I believe Mona is now in private practice but Dr. Smith and Dr. Kupcheck are still with the program.
