Need help with nursing issue paper- (topic?)

Hello,

I am a first year nursing student and this is my first post.

Would anyone have any suggestions on a nursing issue topic?

I am supposed to to write an essay on a specific nursing issue, one that is controversial and/or can be argued from more than one position.

An example would be:

"Should nurses be allowed to strike?"

FYI I am in the Baccalaureate degree program which is the educational entry-to-practice standard for registered nurses in Canada.

Nursing has so many issues that it can be difficult to point to one particular issue that is a good debating point. Here in the US, there are several touchy subjects that might be a starting point for your paper. As you may know, there are several levels of entry into nursing practice in the USA. Perhaps this point might be a good place to start. Also, the topic of advanced practice nurses, and whether these advanced prepared nurses should be supervised by physicians or should be independent in their practice. Another great issues topic would be the lack of unity in the nursing profession. Finally, another issues that might be good to discuss is the lack of professional collaboration and respect between nurses and physicians.
