The question reads.

The nurse receives an order that reads 1250 D5 W IV at 60 milliliters per hour. Infuse for___________

My answer is 20.83 so I make it a whole number 21 hours. The answer sheet states the answer is 20 hours 50 minutes.

Where did I go wrong. I thought answers were rounded off to whole numbers. Is this true?

An hour can be broken down into 60 minutes. 0.83 of an hour is

0.83 x 60 minutes = 49.8 minutes

which rounds off to 50 minutes. 50 minutes is a whole number.

Is there a link where I can get problems like this so I can practice. This is the only problem I got that is both hours and minutes.

the only one i can think of is

  • http://www.interactmath.com/ - follow the directions to download the drivers you need to access the software and then choose a textbook of the type of math you want to work problems from
    • you want to choose a pre-algebra textbook

i am not sure where in the textbook this kind of problem is, but it is there.
