i need help!! im looking for study in ft.myers

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello! i am international student .now still taking english course and i am really like to study nursing here(ft.myers).I have nobody to suggest me to prepare or tell me how to apply to study nursing.only thing i know that i have only two place to study ..1 is Edison College ,2 is Gulf coast University...but i dont have money a lot to spend in every semester everything on my budget.I dont understand that i should take BSN or just Associate program first.I do really want to work in US as a nurse.I need some suggestion from all of you ..tell me what first i have to do and which school it's good for me to study.now i am thinking a lot to make a plan ..thanks..

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I know it will probably be more expensive but go for your BSN. With retrogression there is no guarantee that at the end of your training you will be able to stay in the US and work (I know you can get OPT but that is only for 12 months) ADN generally is not accepted by other countries and you will have to consider the fact you may not be able to stay in the US and work

Retrogression has been ongoing since Oct 06 and is affecting many many nurses including people who trained in the US. There just are no visas at the moment

I don't know your full situation, but the BSN is going to be more expensive, but well worth it. But if you plan on getting the ASN then continuing onto your BSN, that will be more money in the end. If you take the BSN, your going to need your prereqs, and that will take more time and money if you do not have them done. So, it depends on if you need to get in now and get money or can wait a bit. I am in the BSN nursing program now, of your second option so any questions just PM me

thank you for your suggestion. I have some question about study fee..how much per semester that i have to pay and i should take community colleage or university.i just thinkig to study here and work here when i graduate...thanks

I go to school at edison... IT IS THE BEST program. FGCU lost their accrediation.. so there is no BSN program. By the beginning of next year Edison will have a BSN program..

For FGCU: If you are a resident it is $132.29 per credit hour (not a resident $574.58). Credits per semester vary, average is around 14. There are lab fees, books, & all your nursing gear. Check out each of the schools websites for more information.

FGCU is a new school and still developing their nursing program. We did not lose our acredidation Deannalynn (which would make no sense because how would the student nurses still be in the program able to graduate with their BSN and take NCLEX, there is also an incoming class for the program this fall). Edison is a good program, but at the time I was applying they did not have a BSN program, only an ADN. So I am glad to see your enthusiasm for your school, but please don't type false information. I believe there are two great nursing programs in Fort Myers, both FGCU & Edison, and think we should both support each other as opposed to stating rumors.

:)I totally agree both schools are good. I am applying to edison and FGCU Nursing program for the Fall of 2010.

I would love to go to FGCU because I have my A.A. degree and it will make more sense to go their. However, I would apply to Edison Because they have a great nursing program and I want to have at least another choice just in case I don't get accepted to one school. But, I love the area and I want to stay close to home. Also, FGCU is fully accredited do to their good scores last year. GOOD LUCK TO YOU:nurse:

I didn't mean lost accredation, what i ment to say was on probation. That was the last i heard, so from what i have found, i guess the probation has been lifted.

AND BTW, i wasnt bashing the school, i went there for two years, i was just trying to help the original poster to have the information. Sorry i was wrong. :(

To Deanalynn:

You said you attend edison but are you currently in the Nursing Program?

If so how is the program so far, I know it's suppose to be real good according from what I hear.

Did you have to take the HESI or ACT scores?

well, I might apply for the summer and fall to have a better chance in getting accepted to their program:yeah:

Any information about the Basic nursing program would be appreciated. :D

Hey Humble,

Actually I just graduated from Edison's Program In December, and Just took my NCLEX on Tuesday and PASSED!!!:yeah: I think Edison's Program was great, ALOT of work, but really prepares you. I did have to submit my ACT scores when i applied (They were not doing the HESI exam 2.5 years ago) I believe they are now making students take the HESI, and i am not sure about ACT. I dont think it matters what semester you apply for, truthfully every semester they do have A LOT of applicants, so your chances are about the same. GOOD LUCK, and if you have any questions, even when in the program, you can definately get in touch with me :)

to Deannalynn:

Well congrats on passing the NCLEX!!:D

I will surely get in touch with you if I have any questions and I will let you Know if I get accepted to Edison's progam.

Wish you the best in your professional Career. :nurse: Go Nurses!!!
